Skin Cancer & Sunspot Examinations

Here at Smart Scan, we check for a range of skin cancers and sunspots, including:

  • Melanoma: Melanoma is considered to be the most serious form of skin cancer. However, with early detection and treatment, there is a high chance it can be successfully treated. Melanoma can grow anywhere on the body and sometimes appears as a new or existing sunspot that changes in shape, colour or size.
  • Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Squamous cell carcinoma is a common type of skin cancer. It usually appears as a firm, red, scaly spot that may crust or bleed. This type of cancer can occur anywhere on the body but most commonly occurs in areas that receive the most sun exposure.
  • Basal Cell Carcinoma: Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer but is considered to be the least dangerous. It usually appears as a small, slow-growing lump or patch on the skin that can be pink, red or flesh-coloured. It is usually found on the head, shoulders and upper torso.
  • Dysplastic Nevi: Dysplastic Nevi are unusual moles that people with light skin are more prone to developing. They are not skin cancers but can be an indicator that you may be disposed to melanoma.
  • Solar Keratoses: Like Dysplastic Nevi, Solar Keratoses are not skin cancers. However, it may indicate you are more likely to develop skin cancer. They can be characterised by small, dry, scaly patches on the skin that may be red.
  • Freckles and Moles: Freckles and moles are relatively common skin markings. While they're usually harmless or benign, it's recommended to monitor them as they can sometimes develop into skin cancer.
  • Seborrhoeic Keratoses: Seborrhoeic Keratoses are common, non-cancerous skin growths that can vary in size and colour. They can occur at age. However, more commonly appears as people get older.

If it's been a while since you had your skin checked, or you've noticed any abnormal-looking spots or lesions, it's a good idea to get checked for skin cancer. You can make a booking with Smart Scan by getting in touch with our team today.
